FAQs

What Is Keratin Hair Treatment?

Keratin treatment was specifically formulated to smooth coarse, curly and frizzy hair that is hard to straighten, and it’s a perfect solution for hair that tends to react to humidity or heat. This unique treatment is especially helpful if you have dry, brittle and unruly hair that resists holding a set.
Keratin-based coating will give your hair a silky-smooth and shiny finish and will make the hair surprisingly easy to style.

What will Keratin treatment do for my hair?

Keratin can be found in skin, hair, nails, teeth, wool and hooves. When it comes to hair, if you damage the outer layer of keratin, you hair look dry, brittle, and overall unhealthy. What Keratin treatment does – it smooths and protects hair shaft by coating the hair follicle. The second layer of your hair, called Cortex, is changing after the bonds of keratin are applied. Keratin changes the structure of your hair on the inside of the hair shaft, and on the outside of the hair follicle it bonds and locks into place.

What kind of keratin treatment should I use?

The popular original Brazilian keratin treatment that you can find online, in beauty supplies and salons have undergone a great deal of controversy. According to numerous researches Allure Magazine and The CBS Morning Show announced that The Brazilian Keratin Treatment (BKT) uses high levels of Formaldehyde, and exposure to this dangerous chemical may cause cancer.
Allure magazine tested samples of BKT and they found out that BKT contained 10 times more Formaldehyde that is allowed and considered safe. So the first thing you need to do is to make sure the Keratin treatment that you are planning to use is free of Formaldehyde or has a value of less than 2 percent.

Here are some effective and safe Keratin Treatments:

Should I get it done at home or at the salon?

Well, if you want to save some extra money you can do keratin treatment at home, but please note that you can accidently damage your hair and skin by doing it yourself.
You will need to use a hot flat iron (up to 450 degrees) in order for keratin treatment to bond with your hair. Be extra careful operating with a hot iron, accidental touch of your skin can give you a serious burn. It will probably get too difficult to reach the back of your head with a flat iron, and this can easily inflict injury. We advise that you either have an experienced friend helping you applying your treatment or get it done at the salon. Salon treatments usually cost between $300 to $600 per treatment, and the achieved results can be expected to last for at least 3 to 5 months.

What are the results?

Keratin treatment will make unruly hair silky-smooth and easy to style if done properly. Sami Halaseh, a hairstylist who performs keratin treatments, once told us how he got a word of thanks from the husband of his client. The husband told him that he no longer had to wait hours while his wife was trying to fix and style her hair. The client was ready in just 10 minutes simply by blow-drying her hair and she was out the door.
Keratin also adds brilliant shine to dull hair. You will see how much healthier and shinier your hair will look.
Important!
First thing you should do before performing any services at home or at the salon is to make sure that you are using a keratin product with NO Formaldehyde (or less than 2 percent of formaldehyde is contained). Let the safety be your major concern.
If you have decided to get it done by yourself, make sure you have a high quality flat iron that can get extremely hot (up to 450 F).
Please remember that some Keratin treatments require you not washing your hair for up to 48 hours after the treatment. This way your hair will look greasy for a couple of days, do not plan any important events for those 2 days.
